The design behind The Buxton is steeped in celebration of local craftsmanship and provenance, balanced with modern simplicity. Deeply passionate about preserving and
restoring as much of our building’s original features as possible, we set out to respectfully bring them back to life with their own twist.

Named after Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton (1786-1845) who lived and worked in the area, we were inspired by the former owner of the Truman brewery, a man who dedicated his life to campaigning for human rights and raised money for the weavers of London who were being
forced into poverty by the advancement in factory technology.

As a nod to the social reformer we take our name in homage to, there is a special focus on items from independent makers – including handwoven rugs and blankets made by local weavers.

The ground floor features a standalone open kitchen, where patrons can see the chefs work,
creating an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Wooden arched windows open onto the street in summer, and a polished Rosso Levanto marble counter that is balanced against inlaid Brass details and aged Sapele wood, a sustainable version of Mahogany. The floor is
1950’s Terrazzo laid to a diagonal pattern discovered during the demolition stage of the project.

The seven story space features carved fossilised Portland Stone from Dorset, artwork from London Fields and a striking Hackney-produced iron staircase leading up to the hotel bedrooms. With lots of natural daylight, each bedroom is a simple, calm and pared back
space. Bespoke, multifunctional furniture provides clever ways to make best use of space for travellers whilst retaining an element of understated luxury.

We serve up a changing menu of bistro plates made with seasonal ingredients, sourced where possible from regenerative farms, alongside a wine list focusing on natural picks.

Bedroom guests have exclusive access to enjoy our secluded rooftop garden, where we
grow produce for our dishes and cocktails.
Shortlisted by Le Fooding as one of the best new bistros in the world, we also won the ‘Open Right’ at the 2019 Food Made Good Awards – an award created by the Sustainability Restaurant Association (SRA) for businesses that have launched with sustainability built in.
